The Pons Method: A Journey Through Resistance, Innovation, and the Future of Football

Look, speaking honestly, I will tell you that as soon as I presented the methodology of the Pons method on July 15, 2020, I presented it to FIFA, and the director of innovation at the time, very young, about 30 I imagine, the age to still be playing soccer, a FIFA member? And director of innovation?

Oh my God, he didn’t understand anything, he told me that they don’t deal with training methodologies, they deal with the VAR, the SMART ball, the grass x, I don’t remember anymore.

The question is, don’t you think that this position should be for someone with experience who knows what they are talking about, a former coach, a renowned former sports director? And the second question is how do institutions move by performance or by appearances and by finger-pointing?

My experience with UEFA, well as a UEFA pro licence member I did not receive an answer.

Well, I have the federations left, I presented it to my own, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, and after an hour of explaining some guidelines of the methodology since there was no time for more.

I asked what they thought, look at the answer to the presentation of the most innovative methodology and improvement of tangible training processes, what did you think? Well, it’s that I don’t train like that. The question is, do you think that if someone trained like that, would it be innovative, and would I have spent zero profit on presenting it to my federation, UEFA and FIFA? And the question is, who works in these organizations? People prepared at 100%?

The question is, don’t you think that these positions should be for someone with experience who knows what they are talking about, what it means to train at a high level, what it means to direct at a high level, and what it means to innovate something, whatever it is, in short, have you been a former elite coach, a former renowned sports director?

And the second question is how institutions move by performance or by appearances and by finger-pointing?

There is still a lot to improve, ladies and gentlemen, this is said by someone who has touched it with his fingers and who shared its methodology from minute zero, do not hesitate before the amount of improvements it brought. I don’t think that neither coerver nor I would think of saying that global training is useless… because it has always been and will always be part of my methodological recipe.

I was already laughing at one more absolute truth. Years later, it was observed how the best coaches in the world and we ourselves used systematic analytical training to enrich our game model and above all to begin to provide our players with synergies, timings, processes, patterns that now The Pons Method has been in charge of maximizing exponentially and up to here.
