FROM COACH TO PERFORMANCE ARCHITECT
UEFA Pro Coach · Methodology Director · High Performance Systems Designer
More than three decades in football have shaped my understanding of performance across different teams, countries, cultures and competitive environments.
I began as a coach.
Over time, experience led me to a broader question:
Why do some organisations continue to perform when coaches, players and directors change, while others are forced to start again?
That question changed the direction of my professional work.
Today, I combine coaching experience, methodology and performance-system design to help teams, clubs, academies and federations build environments capable not only of producing performance — but of sustaining and reproducing it.
HIRE DAVID PONS
MORE THAN THREE DECADES INSIDE FOOTBALL
My career has developed through coaching, player development, competition, methodology, technical structures and high-performance environments.
Working across different football cultures taught me an important lesson:
There is no universal solution that can simply be copied from one organisation to another.
Every club has its own identity, resources, people, competitive reality and limitations.
The challenge is to create an architecture capable of adapting to that reality without losing coherence.
This principle became fundamental to my work.
FIRST IN SPAIN
Coaching · Competition · Player Development · Methodology
My professional foundations were developed in Spanish football through years of coaching, competition and player development.
These environments provided the laboratory in which many of the principles that would later form the PONS Method began to emerge.
INTERNATIONAL
DIFFERENT COUNTRIES. DIFFERENT CULTURES. ONE QUESTION.
How can performance become more coherent, transferable and sustainable?
Experience across Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean has progressively transformed that question into the central focus of my work.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
SAUDI ARABIA
AL SHABAB FC
Olympic / Development Structure
Working inside Al Shabab provided experience within a major professional club environment and a development structure directly connected with first-team football.
During this period, 11 players progressed from the Olympic structure toward first-team football, with players from the development environment later reaching senior international level.
QATAR
AL AHLI DOHA
Professional Football Environment
Experience within Qatar professional football provided another competitive and cultural reality in which tactical organisation, player management, adaptation and performance had to operate under different conditions.
THAILAND
NONGBUA PITCHAYA · UDON THANI
Technical Development · Team Performance · Organisational Experience
Southeast Asian football added another dimension to my professional development.
Different cultures, resources and organisational structures reinforced the importance of creating systems that adapt to context rather than forcing context to adapt to the system.

MULTI-COUNTRY EXPERIENCE
Europe · Middle East · Southeast Asia · Caribbean
Different competitive environments. Different resources. Different cultures.
The principles must adapt.
The architecture must remain coherent.
THE PROFESSIONAL EVOLUTION
COACHING WAS THE BEGINNING
Coaching taught me how to influence players.
Competition taught me how to influence teams.
International experience taught me how profoundly context influences performance.
Methodology taught me how to organise knowledge.
And organisational experience revealed the larger challenge:
Performance cannot permanently depend on individuals.
Coaches leave.
Players leave.
Sporting directors change.
Staff members change.
Technology evolves.
Knowledge disappears.
Processes are abandoned.
And organisations frequently begin again.
This led my work beyond coaching alone.
FROM METHODOLOGY TO PERFORMANCE ARCHITECTURE
The challenge became increasingly clear:
How can a club preserve what works, improve what does not and continue developing when the people inside the organisation change?
The answer cannot be another collection of exercises.
It requires architecture.
A structure connecting:
People
Methodology
Training
Departments
Information
Technology
Knowledge
Decision-making
Evaluation
Continuous improvement
This evolution led to the development of the PONS Method and a broader approach to high-performance system design.

MY PRINCIPLES
ARCHITECTURE BEFORE CONTENT
Before deciding what to train, organisations must understand how performance is structured.
Without architecture, more content often produces more noise.
INDIVIDUALISATION WITHOUT LOSING THE COLLECTIVE
Every player is different.
Individual development must respect that difference without destroying collective coherence.
SPECIALISATION MUST REMAIN CONNECTED
Technical, tactical, physical, cognitive, medical and human-performance specialists require their own expertise.
But expertise becomes more powerful when it operates inside a common architecture.
CONTEXT BEFORE DOGMA
Methods must adapt to players, organisations, cultures and competitive realities.
The organisation should never become a prisoner of methodology.
KNOWLEDGE MUST SURVIVE PEOPLE
An organisation that loses its knowledge every time a professional leaves is not accumulating competitive intelligence.
It is repeatedly starting again.
PERFORMANCE MUST BE REPRODUCIBLE
A great season matters.
Building the capability to create another great season matters more.
THE PRINCIPLE
COACHES COME AND GO. SYSTEMS REMAIN.
Great professionals are essential.
But sustainable organisations cannot depend permanently on extraordinary individuals.
They need extraordinary environments capable of capturing knowledge, aligning people and improving decisions.
That is the transition:
From coaching performance to designing the conditions that make performance possible.
